Martinez is keen to shore up his backline before the transfer deadline, and considers the 28-year-old as a perfect fit for his style of play.

The Star claims that the Toffees will step forward and make a bid in the region of £3.5m for the central defender.

Reports elsewhere cite that the Merseyside outfit are bracing themselves for a third and final offer for John Stones from Premier League holders Chelsea.
