Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given his full support to striker Oliver Giroud following his dismal performance for France earlier this week.

  • Chelsea defender confirms decision to leave club

  • The 28-year-old failed to take his chances during France's 2-1 friendly win over Serbia on Monday and was eventually jeered off the pitch when replaced by Real Madrid star Karim Benzema in the second half.

Wenger has now backed his fellow counterpart by insisting that these types of things happen even to the greatest of strikers.

"He has my full support and I believe that is part of being a striker," he told the club's official website.

"There is no striker in the world who has not been questioned. When he missed a chance and is booed, that can happen."

Giroud has scored a solitary goal in five league games for Arsenal this season.
