The France international was tipped all summer to make his way to the Emirates, but things did not pan out as planned, and the Gunners were left with goalkeeper Petr Cech as their only summer signing.

Benzema has since then gone on media to state that he never had a desire to make a move to North London.

However, El Confidencial cites that the 27-year-old did consider the idea of linking up with Arsene Wenger in the summer.

Arsenal are thought to have had a bid of around &pound40m knocked back by Real for their long-term target.
