Premier League strugglers Newcastle United are weighing up a January bid for Manchester United outcast Victor Valdes following a season ending injury to Tim Krul.
The Netherlands international suffered a cruciate ligament injury on international duty, and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
According to The Mirror, the Magpies are thought to have earmarked Valdes as the ideal fit for the number one role.
It is added that United boss Louis van Gaal would favour seeing Valdes joining the Magpies rather than a direct rival.
The 33-year-old is believed to be desperate for an exit from Old Trafford with reports suggesting that the player no longer has a locker at the team's training ground.
