Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce will reportedly allow the sale of Jermaine Defoe and Sebastien Larsson in January.

  • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso

  • Defoe has started just one league game since Allardyce's appointment in October, and this has left the striker frustrated in his role at Wearside.

According to The Telegraph, the 62-year-old is considering the exit of Defoe and Larsson as he seeks to reduce the wage bill to bring new recruits in the New Year.

It is added the experienced head coach will be offered a &pound15m transfer kitty to turn things around in the second half of the campaign.

Sunderland are currently 19th in the league standings after 12 games into the season.
