Chelsea withdraw Stones pursuit

Chelsea are unlikely to revive their interest in Everton defender John Stones at the end of the season. The England international had been the subject of multiple bids from the Blues last summer, but the Toffees were not keen on his sale.

  • Recent speculation had suggested that the Blues could come up with a fresh offer for the player with future boss Antonio Conte eager to strengthen his backline.

However, a report from The Express says the West Londoners have dropped their pursuit for the centre-back after the Toffees were reluctant to go down on their £45m asking price.

The news will come as as a big boost for rivals Manchester City and Manchester United, who are expected to lodge respective bids for the 21-year-old.

Stones joined the Toffees from Barnsley for just £3m in January 2013.
