Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane ahead of a summer bid for his signature. The French centre-back is said to be eager to a fresh challenge after failing to cement a regular starting role at the Bernabeu.
Varane, 23, has recently expressed his frustration after he was benched during Los Blancos' Champions League semi-final legs against Manchester City.
The Star says United are in advanced negotiations with the player's representatives over a summer move to Old Trafford.
However, the deal will only go through if Jose Mourinho replaces Louis van Gaal at the club's next head coach.
Varane is currently rated at £25m at Real.
