Liverpool target Gabriel Mercado

12 June 2016 - 07:41

Liverpool are interested in signing River Plate defender Gabriel Mercado after manager Jurgen Klopp tracked the player on Copa America duty.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • Gabriel, who primarily operates at right-back, has the ability to play in central defence or on the right side of midfield.

According to The Mirror, Reds boss Klopp was in the stands watching the 29-year-old during Argentina's 2-1 win over Chile in the Copa America Centenario last week.

It is added that the club have made contact with the player's representatives as they look to get through a deal in the upcoming transfer window.

The Reds are currently on the look out for a new centre-back with Martin Skrtel deemed surplus to requirements whilst Kolo Toure was released at the expiry of his contract.
