Chelsea striker Diego Costa remains the top target for Atletico Madrid as they look to offer a strong challenge for the league title once again next season. The Spaniard has been strongly linked with a return to Spain despite being guaranteed a regular role under new Blues boss Antonio Conte.
Costa had a mixed second season with the Stamford Bridge side with most of his goals coming after the turn of the year.
According to The Mirror, Atleti manager Diego Simeone is desperate to re-sign the 27-year-old after he was provided assurances over a reasonable transfer budget for the summer.
The player is also open to a La Liga comeback following communications with Atleti president Enrique Cerezo.
Chelsea currently rate Costa at around £35m.
