Manchester United have apparently made contact with Zenit St.Petersburg over a proposed move for Axel Witsel. Juventus are also interested in the Belgian international.
Witsel has expressed his desire to join a new club following four seasons with the Russian outfit.
According to Italian outlet TMW, the Red Devils could be in the running to sign the midfield enforcer after they held talks with Zenit officials .
The news will come as a huge blow for Juventus, who were expected to have clear route to the 27-year-old.
Witsel has stalled on talks over a contract extension with his existing deal due to expire in June 2017.
United have already signed Ivorian defender Eric Bailly whilst they are close to finalizing an agreement for Borussia Dortmund ace Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
