Mexican international Hector Herrera is on the verge of joining Napoli from Porto this summer. Liverpool had previously expressed interest in his services.
The 26-year-old was recently linked with a move to Merseyside with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp having held crunch talks with the player's representatives.
However, the player has since turned down the approach and agreed personal terms with Napoli, who have Champions League football to play for next season.
Napoli have yet to finalize a transfer sum with the Primeira Liga outfit holding out for a £20m for their star asset.
Herrera was part of the Mexican side that received a 7-1 thumping at the hands of Chile in the Copa America Centanario earlier this month.
Porto recruited the midfielder from Pachuca for £8m in 2013.
