Real Madrid enter the race to sign André Gomes

Real Madrid are set to join the chase to sign Valencia CF midfielder André Gomes, according to reports in Spain.

  • Marca claim that the eleven time European Champions are keen to bolster their midfield options, and Valencia's Gomes is on their wanted list.

Madrid are also interested in French midfield star Paul Pogba, but are thought to be unwilling to meet Juventus' €120 million valuation of the 23-year-old.

So it now appears that Los Blancos are ready to turn their attention to Gomes.

Although, it is also believed that Valencia's insistance that they will not let Gomes leave for a penny less than his €65 million release cluae, could also prove prohibitive to a Madrid move, as last season's Champions League winners are thought to value Gomes at around €40 million.

Madrid will face competition for Gomes' signature from Chelsea, Juventus and bitter rivals FC Barcelona.

Both Chelsea and Juventus are believed to have had €40 million bids rejected for the 22-year-old playmaker.

Gomes signed for Valencia from Benfica last summer, following a successful loan spell during the previous season. Despite his side's disappointing La Liga campaign, Gomes still managed to catch the eye with some high quality performances, scoring 5 times from 41 appearances in all competitions.

Gomes is currently on international duty for Portugal at the ongoing UEFA European Championship in France, where he will likely be involved in Wednesday night's semi-final against Wales.
