Chelsea fail with £45m bid for Valencia's Andre Gomes

Spanish side Valencia have rebuffed a £45.2m offer from Chelsea for star midfielder Andre Gomes. The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the finest talents to have come out of Portugal.

  • Gomes had an impressive loan spell with Los Che during the 2014-2015 campaign, and this earned him a permanent move from Benfica last summer.

His performances for Portugal at the European championships have caught the radar of top European clubs, with Juventus already thought to have failed with a £38.4m bid.

Spanish source Mundo Deportivo says the Blues have joined the pursuit for the playmaker with a £45.2m sum being tabled in the past 48 hours.

However, Los Che have turned down the approach with the club's hierarchy reluctant to accept anything less than £72.5m for their asset.

Gomes, who has earned 13 caps with his national side, is contracted to Valencia until the summer of 2020.
