Varane to stay put at Real

Raphael Varane rejects Man Utd

21 July 2016 - 09:26

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has snubbed a move to Manchester United in this summer's transfer window. The Frenchman is content with life at the Spanish capital.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • It had been previously stated that the 23-year-old could leave the European champions in the quest for regular role in the starting line-up.

Spanish source Marca says the centre-back has turned down a reunion with Jose Mourinho after he received the backing from Real boss Zinedine Zidane.

The 'Special One' was in-charge of Los Blancos when Varane was first brought in from Lens in 2011, and there were suggestions that a similar trend could happen this summer.

But, following discussions with Zidane, the player has switched his mind and he is focused on plying his trade for Los Blancos next season.

Varane suffered a hamstring problem during the back-end of the previous campaign, and this ruled him out of France's Euro 2016 run, which saw them finish runners-up to Portugal.
