Van Der Vaart moves to Denmark

10 August 2016 - 17:31

Rafael Van Der Vaart has completed a move to Danish FC Midtjylland. The 33 year old midfielder is reported to have signed a two year deal with the club after leaving Real Betis, where he fell out of favour with head coach Gus Poyet.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • Speaking to his new clubs Youtube channel Van De Vaart said 'I had some problems in Seville so I tried to find another club'. He went on further to say that he visited the stadium and that he was impressed with the team and that he knew he wanted play there.

He went on further to say 'It's a young club with a lot of young players, I'm a bit older so I hope I can help them.

Van Der Vaart made just nine appearances for Betis last season and had been linked with a move to Championship side, Reading, who are managed by his former Dutch team mate and Jaap Stam. Midtjylland caused a stir last season when they defeated Manchester United 2-1 in the home leg of their Europa League last 32 clash, before losing the return leg 5-1 at Old Trafford.

Van Der Vaart has enjoyed spells at Real Madrid, Tottenham and Hamburg since leaving Ajax in 2005.
