Portugal international Jose Fonte is set to ink a fresh contract at Southampton thereby ending speculation over his future. Manchester United have been strongly linked with the player's services this month.
Fonte, 32, was a key player for his nation this summer as they went on to beat hosts France and lift the Euro 2016 title.
Recent reports suggested that the Red Devils could make a late bid for the defender with Jose Mourinho keen to add an experienced centre-half to his ranks this summer.
However, according to The Mail, Fonte has been convinced to remain at St.Mary's, and will commit his future on a fresh two-year deal on wages worth £75,000-a-week.
Fonte is currently the Saints' longest-serving player having joined from Crystal Palace back in 2010. He has appeared in 267 games for his side till date.
