Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has enraged manager José Mourinho after turning down a transfer away from the club, according to reports.

  • The Telegraph is reporting that Manchester United manager José Mourinho is furious with German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, after the former Bayern Munich player turned down the chance to sign for Sporting Clube de Portugal.

Schweinsteiger has been informed that he is not part of Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford this season and that he is free to seek employment elsewhere, but the Germany captain is insistent that he is happy at United, and had no desire to move.

Mourinho is keen to offload Schweinsteiger due to the player’s hefty wages, as he has been told that he must sell players to reduce the club’s wage bill before he can make any more signings.

But the World Cup winner will not consider a move away from Old Trafford at this time, as he conformed in a statement last week that United will be his last club in Europe, with a future move to the Chinese Super League or MLS thee most likely option.

As it stands though, the transfer windows in China and the USA have already closed, so it would seem that Schweinsteiger will stay with United this season, where he has been forced to train with the under-23 side and told that he has very little prospect of any first-team playing time.
