Man Utd get injury boost ahead of Manchester derby

Manchester United manager José Mourinho has been given an injury boost ahead of the Manchester Derby on Saturday (10 September) after Marouane Fellaini proved his fitness by completing 84 minutes for Belgium last night.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The 28-year-old midfielder was believed to be a doubt for the visit of Manchester City to Old Trafford after picking up a back injury in the Red Devils’ last gasp 1-0 victory over Hull City at the KCOM Stadium before the international break.

But Fellaini started for Belgium in their 3-0 win over Cyprus last night and managed to complete 84 minutes for Roberto Matrínez’s men.

This news will be a boost for Mourinho ahead of the highly anticipated clash with City this weekend, as the former Everton player has started every competitive game so far since the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan coach took over at Old Trafford this summer.

Left-back Luke Shaw was sent home from England training due to a minor injury last week, but the 21-year-old is expected to be fit for selection against City.

However, Armenian attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan faces a race against time to prove his fitness, after picking up a thigh injury while representing his country against the Czech Republic.

The £26 million summer signing from Borussia Dortmund is yet to start for his new club, but a string of impressive cameo performances as a substitute has earnt praise from Mourinho, and the 27-year-old could be a contender to start against City if fit.
