Toffees plan winter swoop for Deeney

Everton eye winter move for Troy Deeney

11 September 2016 - 06:55

Everton will lodge an attempt to sign Watford captain Troy Deeney in the January transfer window after they failed in the pursuit of their previous targets.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd interested in signing Aurelien Tchouameni

  • The Toffees were on the hunt for a new marksman over the summer with the likes of Islam Slimani and Lucas Perez being among the top players in their shortlist.

However, the lack of European football eventually cost them in the transfer market with Slimani opting to join English champions Leicester City whilst Lucas Perez headed to Arsenal.

According to The People, the Toffees will make efforts to land Deeney in the New Year despite the player having signed a fresh five-year deal earlier this summer.

The Hornets had received multiple offers from Leicester City in the previous transfer window, but the club's hierarchy made sure they rewarded their star man in order to keep hold of his services.

Deeney, who is currently valued in the £30m range, has appeared in over 260 games for Watford since arriving from Walsall in the summer of 2010.
