French outfit Marseille had made an attempt to sign Bastian Schweinsteiger during the final stages of the transfer window. The German footballer has yet to mark his presence with Manchester United this season.

  • Schweinsteiger, 32, has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford with manager Jose Mourinho not keen on featuring the player in his first-team squad.

According to Canal+ Sport, Les Phoceens had lodged a late bid to pursue the experienced midfielder, but it was to no avail as the German stated his intention to stay put at the Mancunian giants.

The Special One was hoping to get rid of Schweinsteiger over the summer as his presence in the reserves could affect the progress of his younger players. He has since included the enforcer in his Premier League squad with a view to playing him, should an injury crisis prevail.

The former Bayern Munich man has previously insisted that United would be his last club in Europe, but he is open to moving to a MLS club in the future.
