Paul Scholes has blasted Manchester United after his old club suffered their third straight defeat, going down 3-1 to Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday, claiming that Marouane Fellaini should not be starting for the Red Devils.
Speaking to BT Sport, former Manchester United player Paul Scholes was critical of the Red Devils, claiming that their inconsistent team selection is an issue, and that it has become impossible to predict which line up manager José Mourinho will pick week to week, suggesting that the Portuguese coach does not yet know his best team.
The former England playmaker also had harsh words for Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini, whom Scholsed believes should not be starting for the club on a regular basis.
“He does a job in there,” Scholes said of Fellaini. “But if you’re Manchester United, you need more than that.”
Following United midweek Europa League defeat to Feyenoord in Rotterdam, Scholes claimed that United lacked a midfield playmaker in the mould of Real Madrid pair Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, and that world record signing Paul Pogba would benefit from having such a player alongside him.
The 3-1 defeat at Watford marked the first time that Mourinho has suffered three successive losses since he was in charge of FC Porto in 2002, and the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid coach will be keen to avoid a fourth defeat in less than two weeks when United travel to Northampton in the League Cup this week.
