Wayne Rooney is set to be dropped for Manchester United’s game against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday, according to reports.
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is set to be dropped by manager José Mourinho for the Red Devils clash against Premier League champions Leicester City at Old Trafford this week, according to The Sun.
Mourinho is said to have been unimpressed with the England skipper’s display in United’s defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road last weekend.
After losses to Manchester City and Feyenoord, United have now suffered three defeats in a row, having started the season with three wins from three league games as well as victory over Leicester in the Community Shield.
The Red Devils will have the chance to bounce back from this trio of losses when they travel to take on League One’s Northampton Town in the third round of the EFL Cup.
After that, they then face the visit of Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes at Old Trafford. Mourinho will be desperate to get his side back to winning ways and it appears that he may drop his captain in order to do so.
There has been speculation among fans for several months over whether Rooney deserves to be considered a starter in United’s best eleven these days, and the manager is now asking himself the same question.
