Morata: Chelsea made £60m bid for me

22 September 2016 - 10:21

Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has claimed that Chelsea made a £60 million bid for him this summer, but he always had his heart set on a return to Los Blancos, according to reports.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Sky Sports is reporting that Spanish hitman Alvaro Morata has said that Chelsea made a massive £60 million bid for his services this summer, but his dream was to return to the Bernabeu and re-start his Real Madrid career.

Morata initially left Madrid two years ago to sign form Juventus in a €20 million deal. As part of the agreement between the two clubs, the Spaniards retained a buyback option on the player which was due to expire this summer.

After much speculation, Madrid confirmed that, as per the agreement, they would be exercising their buyback option on Morata, which saw the 23-year-old return to Los Blancos for €30 million.

However, there was some debate over whether Madrid had only re-signed Morata to then sell him on to a Premier League club for a large profit, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United all though to be interested in the striker.

But Madrid elected to hold onto Morata, and he has played a role in helping Zinedine Zidane’s side reach the summit of La Liga, as well as equalling the Spanish top division record of 16 straight wins, set by Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona team.
