Chelsea legend in running for Swansea job

Zola linked with Swans job

Chelsea legend in running for Swansea job

24 September 2016 - 07:16

Swansea City have added Chelsea great Gianfranco Zola on the list of potential managers who could replace Francesco Guidolin.

  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • The Swans have made a dismal start to the Premier League campaign, and this has urged the club's hierarchy to assess the position of Guidolin.

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs was initially believed to be leading contender for the manager's role, but according to Gazzettamercato, Zola is also in line to takeover the reigns if Guidolin gets the sack.

The 60-year-old was only recruited midway through the campaign before illness ruled him out for the best part of a couple of weeks.

There were suggestions that Brendan Rodgers could make a return to the Liberty Stadium over the summer, but the Swans decided otherwise and finalized a two-year contract with Guidolin.

Since then, the experienced coach has failed to bring in the necessary results, and it is thought that he would be sacked ahead of next month's international break.

Zola, who has recently managed at Al-Arabi, has became the latest name to be linked with the Swans' job, and a decision is likely to be made if the club fail to turn their fortunes around.

Guidolin has led his side to a solitary win in the first five games of the new league campaign.
