Former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune claims club captain Wayne Rooney is not finished at the highest level, despite recently being dropped from the starting eleven, according to reports.
The Mirror is reporting that former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune has defended his old team mate Wayne Rooney, insisting that the England skipper should not be completely written off, despite his recent omission from the side for the Red Devils’ 4-1 victory over Leicester City at the weekend.
Rooney was dropped to the bench for the visit of the Premier League champions on Saturday, and Fortune does not contest that Rooney’s exclusion from the team was justified.
However, he feels that calls to write his old pal off are some way wide of the mark, and he would not be willing to go that far.
“No way in a million years am I going to say he's finished,” Fortune said, speaking at the Soccerex event.
It is believed that Rooney will return to the United line up for Thurday’s Europa League tie against Zorya Luhansk of Ukraine at Old Trafford.
But there remains doubt over whether manager Jose Mourinho will re-introduce his captain to the starting team to face Stoke City in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Manchester Evening News believed that the 30-year-old striker is competing with summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan for a place in the side.
