Koeman would consider Rooney move

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has suggested that he would offer regular first-team football to Wayne Rooney, should he return from Manchester United in the future.

  • The England international has been warming the substitutes' bench for United in recent games, and this has also cost him a regular role with the Three Lions.

The likes of Inter Milan and Shanghai SIPG have been linked with the experienced striker this month, but according to Koeman, a switch back to Goodison Park may not be off the cards.

"Rooney is a great player," he told reporters. "Rooney has still not finished his career. I do not know what his situation is - that's not my problem, but if we got the opportunity for Rooney to be available for Everton I would be very pleased."

Rooney made his first-team debut with Everton in 2002 before he headed to Manchester United on a £26m deal in 2004. He has since racked an impressive tally of 246 goals for his side in all competitions.
