Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea reportedly has a release clause written into his current contract.

  • The Spain international was on the verge of joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 before a delay in paperwork meant that the deal could not go through before the transfer deadline.

De Gea followed to ink a fresh four-year contract at Old Trafford, and this eventually ended speculation over his future.

According to Spanish publication Marca, the Spaniard may still leave the Mancunian giants in the future, should any club trigger the £51.7m escape clause present in his existing deal.

Gianluigi Buffon is currently the most expensive goalkeeper in history having joined Juventus from Parma for a £33m sum in 2001.

De Gea has not had much success in recent seasons at Manchester United, and should Real Madrid return for his services, he could well be tempted to accept the offer.
