Roma to lodge Memphis Depay bid

30 November 2016 - 06:40

Italian giants AS Roma are prepared to lodge an attempt to sign Manchester United outcast Memphis Depay in the New Year. The 22-year-old is expected to leave Old Trafford in January after failing to make his mark under Jose Mourinho.

  • Depay, 22, has barely featured for the Red Devils this season despite Mourinho claiming that the player remains a crucial part of his plans.

According to The Sun, the Giallorossi will table an offer for the Dutchman at the start of 2017 as they seek a suitable replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Egyptian ace Salah will be leaving for the African Cup of Nations in mid-January, and this has urged the Capital outfit to seek a back-up during his absence.

Premier League side Everton have also been linked with the Dutch forward, but Mourinho is reluctant to offload his player to a rival competing for the European places.

Depay is currently available on the loan market, but there is the possibility that he could be sold on a permanent basis in the winter transfer window.
