Everton to lose out on Kevin Strootman

07 December 2016 - 07:50

Reported Everton target Kevin Strootman is apparently close to inking a fresh long-term contract with AS Roma. The Giallorossi are keen to hold onto their star midfielder following his impressive performance against Lazio over the weekend.

  • Strootman, 26, was at his best against local rivals Lazio on Sunday where he netted a goal in the 2-0 win for the Giallorossi.

According to Calciomercato, the Capital outfit have been impressed by the Dutchman's showing this season following a long-term layoff through injury.

It is added that the club will offer an improved contract worth £2.2m-a-year as they seek to extend his stay until the summer of 2021.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman has been a huge admirer of his counterpart over the years, but it seems he could be denied in his quest to land the central midfielder.

Strootman received a two-match ban after the Lazio game for his involvement in the dismissal of Danilo Cataldi during the Rome derby.
