Manchester United chiefs are hoping that Jose Mourinho will sign a new contract with the club, keeping him at the Theatre of Dreams until 2022.Â
Mourinho's current contract expires in 2019, and the Old Trafford hierarchy have been impressed with what they have seen from the Portuguese manager so far, willing to keep him long term, regardless of how the season finishes.
Despite not yet being able to move Manchester United back into the top four of the Premier League, Mourinho has improved results at Old Trafford, losing just six of his first forty games in charge. "The Special One" spent big last summer as he took charge of United, breaking the transfer record to sign Paul Pogba. There are suggestions that more of the same may be coming for the Manchester club in the next transfer window, with several targets being identified that could push spending into hundreds of millions, as United try to return to the summit of the Premier League.
Alongside Mourinho's push for a place in next season's Champions League, United also have three chances remaining to win silverware this year, with the EFL Cup final against Southampton coming soon, a 3-0 first leg lead over Saint Etienne in the Europa League and an FA Cup fifth round fixture against Blackburn Rovers today.
