Tuesday Night CL Preview: Man City V Monaco

21 February 2017 - 11:13

Manchester City and Monaco meet at the Etihad tonight, as they go head to head in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • After their campaign to regain the Premier League trophy has not gone to plan so far this season, Manchester City will be desperate to progress in this competition and go on to win the Champions League for the first time in their history. After failing to do so in the last few seasons, Pep Guardiola was brought in by City chiefs because of his outstanding European record, which has seen him win the competition twice and never fail to reach the semi finals.

Ligue 1 has a misconception of being an easy tie for other European teams, but that is far from being the case, with Monaco sitting top of the league, above PSG, who beat Barcelona 4-0 last week, and having the best scoring tally of all the major European leagues this season. Monaco have won four of their last five games in all competitions, and have disposed of English opposition in the Champions League already this season, with victories over Tottenham Hotspur, both home and away. Manchester City are in good form too, having won four of their last six games in all competition, although they will be looking to bounce back from an uninspiring 0-0 FA Cup draw with Huddersfield Town at the weekend.
