Neuer ruled out of England clash

20 March 2017 - 15:55

Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been ruled out of Wednesday's match against England and also their World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan on Sunday. The Bayern Munich stopper has picked up a calf injury, meaning that he will therefore remain with the Bundesliga giants for the duration of the international break, according to the German Football Federation.

  • Chelsea duo return to partial team training
  • Chelsea planning to sell Sterling to sign Crystal Palace star?

  • Although it is only a friendly match, England v Germany is always a highly anticipated fixture, with both sets of players desperate to win. Neuer is classed by many as the best goalkeeper in the world, a fact that England will be very aware of. His absence will be a bonus to the Three Lions, however a hugely difficult match against the World Champions is still guaranteed.

Neuer has been replaced in the Germany squad by Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who will be looking to win his first cap for his country during this international period. Bernd Leno and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are the other goalkeepers selected in the squad.

Germany will host England on Wednesday night at the home of Borussia Dortmund, before they both face World Cup Qualifiers, against Azerbaijan and Lithuania respectively.
