Defoe wants EPL stay next season

West Ham will return for Jermain Defoe

22 March 2017 - 06:01

West Ham United will revive their pursuit of former ace Jermain Defoe when the transfer window reopens in July. The 34-year-old has recently admitted that he would prolong his Premier League stay in order to improve his chances of making the England squad for the 2018 World Cup.

  • Defoe has been simply sensation for bottom side Sunderland this campaign, and his 14 goals has helped them gain a decent points tally to give them an outside chance of beating the Premier League drop.

The Black Cats have always made a late push to ensure their top-flight status, but this looks unlikely to happen this season with clubs above them turning on the pressure with crucial wins.

According to The Sun, Slaven Bilic's side will return for the services of Defoe in the summer and are hoping to nab him on a Bosman, should the Black Cats get relegated to the Championship.

Defoe earned his maiden callup to the Three Lions squad after more than three years, and he is desperate to hold onto his place until next summer's World Cup finals due to be held in Russia.
