Chelsea striker Diego Costa has admitted that he did everything that he could to force a return to Atletico Madrid at the end of last season, after the London club had failed so miserably in retaining their Premier League title.
Costa moved to Chelsea from Atletico in 2014 for a fee in the region of £32 million. His passionate performances combined with his great scoring record have lead the Stamford Bridge faithful to love their Spanish striker, although in an interview with El Larguero, Costa has admitted that he was pushing for a return to the Spanish Capital at the start of the season.
He explains that he had "done everything to come back to Atletico Madrid" however he claims that he would not do the same now, as the club "didn't wait" for him.
With this situation unravelling whilst new manager Antonio Conte was taking over, it obviously wasn't the best start for their relationship. After the move failed to materialise, Costa admits that he had to "go to Conte with the tail between my legs." These early issues don't appear to have caused any problems, with Costa being a key figure this season for Chelsea, as they march on to the Premier League title and potentially an FA Cup win too.
Whether Diego Costa will still be with Chelsea next season is currently unclear, with continued speculation of a big money move to the Chinese Super League still present. Costa has said that he intends to fulfil his Chelsea contract, which still has two years left, although when asked about a move to Chelsea, he replied "you never know, it's not impossible."
