Ryan Giggs may take over at Middlesbrough

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs is on the shortlist to take over as the next permanent manager of Middlesbrough. The Premier League strugglers have been under the temporary management of Steve Agnew since the departure of Aitor Karanka, and look set to be relegated to the Championship in the coming weeks.

  • Giggs is looking for his first appointment as a manager, after leaving his role of assistant manager at Manchester United. He was linked to several jobs last summer, but none of them materialised. With his knowledge and connections within the game, Giggs could turn out to be a great appointment by Middlesbrough, who will look for an instant return to the Premier League, if they are relegated this season.

Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson is a big fan of current temporary manager Steve Agnew, quoted by the Sun saying "He has a lot of qualities. He is a very good coach, a deep thinker, loads of experience, knows this club, is a man of integrity and the players trust and like him."

Despite this, he has not had a great run of results since taking over first team affairs, winning just one of his eight league games in charge. Other contenders for the job include Nigel Pearson, Alan Pardew and Paul Ince.
