Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club could be without the services of skipper Laurent Koscielny when they take on Southampton at St Mary's on Wednesday night.
The central defender is due to undergo a series of medical tests today in order to ensure he is fit enough for the key Premier League clash in the South Coast.
The Gunners earned a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Manchester United over the weekend, and this has put them within reach of fourth-placed Manchester City with a game in hand.
With just seven points separating Liverpool, City and the Gunners themselves, Wenger will undoubtedly want to retain the presence of Koscielny in his playing XI.
Apart from Koscielny, Xhaka is also recovering from a minor niggle but he appears to have recovered well than his captain after having been substituted late in the United game.
"We have some worries for Koscielny he might not be available, he will have a test today," Wenger told reporters in his press conference, via TalkSPORT.
"We will make the decision after training. Xhaka similar but he looks to have recovered well, news for him is better."
Meanwhile, Lucas Perez could earn a place on the substitutes' bench versus Southampton after having overcome a thigh strain, which has hindered his participation in recent weeks.
