Leicester, West Brom interested in Middlesbrough defender

Gibson set for EPL comeback?

Leicester, West Brom interested in Middlesbrough defender

22 May 2017 - 11:02

Premier League duo Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion have both expressed an interest in signing Middlesbrough centre-back Ben Gibson in the summer transfer window.

  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • The pair are among the long list of top-flight clubs keen on the 24-year-old, who has been the standout performer for Boro despite their relegation to the second tier.

Middlesbrough are said to be desperate to keep hold of their main players in order to push for immediate promotion, but Gibson could still be on the move in order to remain in contention for England selection.

The central defender earned his maiden Three Lions call-up earlier this year and a drop in division could cost him another recall ahead of the 2018 World Cup finals.

According to The Mirror, both the Foxes and the Baggies are aiming to take advantage of the player's situation in order to lure him back to the Premier League.

Gibson, who can also feature at left-back, is likely to cost in upwards of £20m this summer owing to the additional revenue received from the television rights.

The former England youth international has appeared in over 150 games across all competitions in his Middlesbrough career.
