Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce leaves club

Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has shocked the club by announcing that he wants to leave his role, just six months into his two and a half year contract.

  • Arsenal make surprise decision on Viktor Gyokeres
  • Arsenal to battle Napoli to sign Alexsandro Ribeiro?

  • The appointment of Allardyce worked well for both parties, with the former Sunderland manager being unemployed at the time after a short-lived spell in charge of the England national team. The Eagles were struggling at the bottom of the Premier League, something that Allardyce was able to turn around in his short time in charge.

Following his success in the second half of the season with Crystal Palace, Sam Allardyce spoke of how he would seek certain assurances from the club in regards to summer transfer funds before he would commit his future to the club.

The talks with Palace bosses appear to have gone badly, with the Daily Mail reporting now that Allardyce has told the club that he is leaving, before clearing his belongings from his training ground office.

Crystal Palace are said to be hoping that they can persuade Allardyce to change his mind, but it is believed at this point that it would be unlikely. It is not the first time that a manager has unexpectedly decided to quit Crystal Palace after avoiding relegation, with Tony Pulis leaving in similar circumstances in 2014, after winning the manager of the season award.
