Chelsea are on the lookout for a new backup goalkeeper after Asmir Begovic completed his move to Bournemouth on Tuesday and they have set their sights set on Paris Saint-Germain stopper Alphonse Areola.

  • The Premier League champions were desperate to keep hold of first choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois this summer, and the Belgian international looks set to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge. Now, Antonio Conte is searching for a second choice goalkeeper, as he looks to add depth to his squad in preparation for the addition of Champions League football next season.

It will have come as no surprise to the club that Asmir Begovic left for Bournemouth, as the two parties tried to complete the deal back in January. Chelsea said they would only allow Begovic to leave if they found a replacement in time, something that they were unable to do.

Now, Antonio Conte's attentions have turned to PSG man Alphonse Areola. The French goalkeeper is looking for a new challenge reports The Sun, and the 24 year old may fancy his chances of competing against Courtois for the number one shirt.
