Yaya Toure signs new Manchester City contract

Yaya Toure has extended his stay in Manchester by signing a new one year contract with Manchester City. Toure's previous deal expired at the end of the season and it was unclear whether he would be offered a new one by the club.

  • Chelsea agree £50m plus deal to sign Brazilian star
  • Arsenal ready to make second offer for Spanish star

  • The thirty-four-year-old's Manchester City career looked to be over early on in the season when he was left out of Pep Guardiola's Champions League squad. After a public falling out between Toure's agent and Guardiola was resolved, the former Ivory Coast international began to feature regularly for the first team, ending the season with thirty-one appearances.

Toure is just one short of reaching 300 appearances for Manchester City, a milestone he will certainly hit at the beginning of the new season. Since arriving from Barcelona in 2010, the midfielder has scored eighty-one goals for City, with his strength and power enough to challenge any defence.

Although Yaya Toure may now feature more as a squad player as opposed to a starting first team regular, the decision for him to sign a new contract was an easy one. "I am delighted. I told myself the journey at City is not done," he explained when the deal was announced, before adding "It is a great club, going in the right direction with new players who are coming in."
