Arsenal might finally get long-term target Lacazette

02 June 2017 - 05:28

Arsenal have been given a boost in their attempt to finally bring Alexandre Lacazette to the club after Atletico's transfer ban was upheld.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The French forward has been a long-term target for Arsenal, as Arsene Wenger tried to bring him to the club in the summer of 2015 and 2016, but a deal could never be agreed upon.

Lacazette had previously preferred a move to Atletico Madrid, with the player himself hinting at the move as he told reporters from French paper L'Equipe that they are a "great team" and one that "helps players to progress".

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas even admitted in an interview with L'Equipe that Lacazette had a "verbal agreement with the club."

However, Lacazette will not be able to make that switch following Atletico's failed appeal against their transfer ban which runs until January 2018.

Atletico's transfer ban presents Wenger with the perfect opportunity to finally land Lacazette and will now allow Arsenal to step up their interest in the player, according to The Independent.

Despite Arsenal's failure to qualify for the Champions League, Arsene Wenger has promised to sign top players and is expected to splash the cash on them to make up for the lack of Champions League football next season.
