Barcelona eyeing Ousmane Dembélé deal

07 June 2017 - 15:02

The young Frenchman produced some excellent performances this season and has attracted the interest of many clubs across Europe and Barcelona are keen on bringing the winger to Camp Nou.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • Dembélé played a surprisingly integral role in Borussia Dortmund this past season, appearing 49 times. He scored 10 goals and registered an incredible 21 assists in all competitions in what was a brilliant debut season.

His performances have also made him one of the most exciting young French players in the national team, ahead of the players like Kingsley Coman and Anthony Martial, who both played a much less prominent role in Bayern Munich and Manchester United respectively.

A plethora of European clubs have registered their interest in the winger but Barcelona are leading the way and are eyeing a potential deal, according to French newspaper L'Equipe.

The departure of Thomas Tuchel was reportedly not welcomed by Dembélé as the German coach's faith in the youngster allowed him to have ample game time to develop.

Furthermore, Barcelona defender and French teammate Samuel Umtiti also confirmed Barcelona's interest in the Dortmund winger. Speaking to L'Equipe, Umtiti said: "I know the club is interested in his profile."

"Ousmane would do us the world of good with his qualities."

The quickness of thought and final passes Dembélés portrays in the final third of play makes him a viable option to play up top in Barcelona's 4-3-3 formation. This would allow Messi to play a deeper role in midfield, a position the Argentinian is getting more accustomed to as his approaches a new stage of his career.
