Stoke City are unlikely to compete for the signing of Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney in the summer transfer window. The England international is widely tipped to leave the Mancunian giants following his restricted playing time under Jose Mourinho last season.
Rooney was largely a regular on the substitutes' bench, and it was not until the final games of the Premier League season, did he earn a regular run in the striker's role.
Earlier this week, odds were slashed on Rooney making his switch to the Bet365 Stadium, but according to Stoke Sentinel, the Potters are not in the pursuit of the experienced marksman.
Rooney, who is now United's all-time goalscorer, has also attracted interest from a host of clubs in the Chinese Super League, but a move could end any chances of him making the England national squad.
Former club Everton remain the preferred destination for Rooney, but the Toffees will want the 31-year-old to take a substantial cut on his current £300,000 a week wages.
