Eggestein - one of Germany's bright hopes

Johannes Eggestein

15 June 2017 - 03:23

Johannes Eggestein has been touted as one of Germany's best young attacking prospects in decades, despite his age of just 19. The 6-foot striker is expected to play a hugely important role for Werder Bremen's first team for the 2017/18 season.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • Eggestein has appeared for Germany's under-19's side last season alongside his domestic performances for Werder Bremen's second string side.

Last season Eggestein made his first-team debut in a DFB-Pokal game and spent the rest of the season playing for the club's reserves side.

With Werder Bremen having sold Serge Gnabry to Bayern Munich this summer, Eggestein's role at the Bundesliga side is likely to become more important in the upcoming months. The striker is expected to sign a new contract this summer that will keep the player in Bremen for the coming seasons ahead.

Eggestein is a striker in the Miroslav Klose mould; he has been praised for his ability to always be in the "right place at the right time". His speed and agility also allow him to quickly quick to find space in the box.

With two or three years of regular first team action in the Bundesliga, Eggestein could become one of Europe's most feared strikers.
