Manchester United set to bid £30 million for Nelson Semedo

20 June 2017 - 04:34

Jose Mourinho has identified the right-back position as one that needs improving and sees Benfica's Nelson Semedo as an ideal addition to the squad.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • The 23-year old Portuguese international had a terrific season for Benfica, scoring two goals and registering an impressive six assists as Benfica won the Portuguese Primeira Liga, the Portuguese Cup, and the Portuguese Super Cup.

Apart from being an extremely skillful wing-back, Semedo also possesses speed and stamina, which allow him to go up and down the flanks easily and tirelessly. His surging runs forward are very similar to United's current right-back Antonio Valencia, but the Portuguese is some way off Valencia's strength. However, he makes up for that with his precise crossing which brought him the aforementioned six assists this season.

Mourinho has always reiterated that having two players in each position is extremely ideal. While Matteo Darmian plays at right-back from time to time, he is more of a versatile squad player that can play in any of the back four positions. As such, Mourinho is desperate to land the player to add depth to his squad that will be competing in the Champions League next season.

According to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Mourinho has already sanctioned a £30 million bid and will hope to tie up the deal as soon as possible. Manchester City, PSG, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona are set to make an offer for the youngster.
