Premier League holders Chelsea could return for the services of Riyad Mahrez this summer following their failed move to sign Napoli's Dries Mertens.
Mertens had initially been identified as a prime target to bolster the Blues' attack, but the Belgium international opted to extend his stay in Naples.
As a result, Mahrez is back on the Blues' radar after he highlighted his intention to leave Leicester City this summer, The London Evening Standard claims.
The Algeria international struggled to make a significant impact in the Foxes' campaign last term, and this saw them finish a lowly 12th in the comparison to the previous year, where they were crowned the league champions.
Towards the end of the campaign, Mahrez was spotted discussing about Chelsea with teammate Islam Slimani, where he said: "They’re an incredible club. A real club".
Chelsea had tried to pursue Mahrez's signature during the last summer transfer window, but Antonio Conte eventually settled with the signing of N'Golo Kante, who proved key towards the Blues' title triumph.
