Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk has highlighted his commitment towards Southampton despite the continuous speculation surrounding his future.

  • Juventus and Roma to battle for 20yo Arsenal star
  • Chelsea defender confirms decision to leave club

  • The 26-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer, but the deal never materialised after the Saints lodged a formal complaint against the Reds over an illegal approach.

Van Dijk initially refused to take the playing field for the Saints, but he eventually made his bow as a late substitute in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in mid-September. The former Celtic man has since started five Premier League games under Mauricio Pellegrino, and he now feels he is giving his '100 percent' for the club.

"Firstly, I don't think it's appropriate to comment on anything that happened before. But I am giving 100 percent for the club," he is quoted as saying by The Star. "I work hard every day, I help my teammates, I'm positive and I want to win every game. I am happy and that's the most important thing so we will just see what happens."

Van Dijk's form has been indifferent during the first half of the campaign, with just one clean sheet in five league starts. The centre-back is currently part of Dick Advocaat's Holland squad who are scheduled to take on Scotland and Romania in international friendlies.
