Manchester United have been linked with a surprise move to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid at the end of the current campaign.
According to Diario Gol, the Portuguese footballer would entertain the prospect of returning to Old Trafford with United seemingly willing to make him the highest-paid player in the planet.
Ronaldo is likely to be valued at a world-record fee despite his trailing age, but Diario Gol suggests that United could acquire his services for around £65m by offering David de Gea as a makeweight.
The deal would have sounded great around three years ago, but judging by De Gea's improvement since, United would be deemed foolish to part ways with their goalkeeper.
The Spain international has single-handedly won United points on several occasions over the past year, and a deal looks highly improbable despite the excitement of the speculation.
Ronaldo has more than three years left on his contract at Los Blancos, and much of the gossip has resulted from the club's hierarchy being reluctant to discuss an improved deal.
