Everton manager rules out Portuguese transfer swoop

06 June 2018 - 18:30

Newly appointed Everton coach Marco Silva insists that he will not be scouring his homeland of Portugal to sign new players and has told reporters that he will be evaluating the options in his squad already first. Everton are planning a major overhaul of their playing staff before the beginning of the new season.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Several media outlets have been reporting that Silva will be joining his head scout on a mission to Portugal to find new players to sign.

However, Silva responded to the rumours: “At this time, frankly, we have 38 players. We have many decisions to take, many players from the academy to analyse and to define.

“It’s obvious that later we are going to attack the market. Everything that has been said about William does not correspond to the truth.

“I don’t want to speak individually, because afterwards they ask about Carrillo, this and that. This has begun.

“The reality is that I have not yet spoken to the owner or Marcel, who I deal with on these things, about any Portuguese football players right now. I’m not saying I will not talk. But at the moment I did not mention any players who are in the Portuguese league.”
