Stoke City have reportedly made an offer worth £10m to pursue the signature of Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle.
The 25-year-old struggled on his return to the Premier League last term with just six goals in 35 appearances and he could be deemed surplus to requirements, should a new marksman come in.
According to The Mail, the Potters have launched a £10m bid for the former Crystal Palace man as they seek to put together a side capable of securing their immediate return to the top-flight.
Gayle has not quite succeeded when it comes to the Premier League but dropping down a level has suited him. The striker netted 23 goals for the Magpies during the 2016/17 Championship season and he could emerge as the ideal fit for the Potters in their promotion push next term.
Meanwhile, Stoke are also close to committing Joe Allen to a new contract despite reports earlier suggesting that he may leave the club. The Welshman is due to take a 50 per cent pay-cut following relegation but Stoke are keen to adjust this with the help of a fresh deal.
